It was long ago, about 2000 years before our era when some ancient tribes named the Balts arrived and settled on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. These tribes were the ancestors of the Latvians, one of the Baltic peoples which formed out of four pagan tribes - Kurshi, Semigalls, Sels and Lattgals. The Latvian people have had the mythology, customs, folklore (dainas) and pagan beliefs of its own, the Latvian language (proudly presented on this album) is one of the oldest Indo-European languages remained through the ages. In the end of the 12th century the cross-adorers from German lands arrived here to turn the last pagan tribes in Europe to the Christian faith. Supported by the Knights of the Order of Sword they were able to conquer the lands of ancient Latvian tribes, but the pagan belief of our ancestors was never destroyed - it has been living in people's minds and everyday life up to date. The Latvians have never been a conquerors, we just have been fighting for the land of our fathers that belongs to us by right.
